Dropping out of high school doesn’t have to mean the end of your educational career. You can earn a General Education Development diploma, also known as a GED.

To complete this How-To you will need:

Practice tests
A GED class provider
study skills
Internet access (optional)
Sample tests (optional)
Discipline (optional)
Special accomodations (optional)

Step 1: Understand the test

Know that the GED is five tests: writing, reading, social studies, math, and science

Step 2: Determine your level

Determine your skill level in each of the subject areas by taking practice tests.

Tip: Find sample practice tests online, or contact a community provider of GED classes.

Step 3: Study

Study for the GED subject areas where you received the lowest score.

Tip: You can study on your own without going to class, but you’ll need discipline.

Step 4: Schedule an exam

Schedule an exam by going through a program or contacting your state GED examiner.

Tip: GED testing centers will provide special accommodations if you have a documented learning disability.

Step 5: Celebrate

Celebrate your accomplishment when you have earned the GED.

    @mattmoreira252 Good luck Matt, I think this is a wonderful idea. My sister joined the Navy after getting her GED and saved up quite a bit of money. She now owns her own place and has a hefty savings. I’m not going to say it was easy for her, but not everything will be easy.

    @mattmoreira252 …
    @mattmoreira252 Rofl a bunch of stupid idiots like you would fail their school on purpose. You don’t read books good and you just go to school to wank yourself a classes. Its totally sad that I’ve seen mexicans and blacks who just got repeated at grade 9,10,11, and 12 as well. You just don’t understand the importance of education. I’m in all advance classes now and I’m gonna be success with my job. Get a life or end your life if you just like to wank on education.

    I was forced to drop out of highschool because I had to make income or be homeless. I’m studying for it now so I can go to college.

    Wow reading all …
    Wow reading all these posts motivate me to persevere even more to get my GED. Once I get my GED I’m going to join the Navy! – The reason I’m getting my GED is because I was stuck in private school all my life and failed 4 grades and then the private school sent my parents a letter when I was 16 saying that they didn’t want me to attend at their school the following year. I was heart broken until I realized that I can be just a success with my GED and a few college courses! Here I come Navy!

    @dogcatman1 Most of …
    @dogcatman1 Most of the things are pointless and hardly are ever seen in the real-world ( Except Chemistry, vocational skills and of course mathematics ). Everything they teach in school, or in college can be learned through going to your public library.

  12. visionimagify — January 25, 2011 @ 2:48 pm

    @tashalovesu I’m …
    @tashalovesu I’m going for my GED and towards college afterward. They placed me in a Special Educational setting for almost my whole educational experience in public school until 10th grade when I had enough and got out of it. Sometimes you have to prove to them that you’re not dumb, but intelligent. Yeah, I have troubles with mathematics–my brain can’t figure out some of it right, but over the years I didn’t let it stop me. Pushing on is better than living in doubt.

    School is where i …
    School is where i learned how to read,write,multiply,divide,add,subtract, and school is where i met most of my friends. But other than that it is pointless i never learned after the 6th grade its was just pointless. Im going to try to pass my ged without studying , and if i fail ill study and attack it again.
